Vilifying The Soda

Besides being really articulate and smart, Rush Limbaugh is also REALLY entertaining and funny. This had me laughing out loud today...RUSH:" You've probably seen this if you've been watching cable news all day. They're making big news out of this. From the UK Telegraph: "Drinking large amounts of cola every day can cause muscle problems, an irregular heartbeat and even paralysis, doctors have warned." This is just the run-up to taxing the stuff. "Chronic consumption of the drink can cause a condition called hypokalaemia, in which levels of potassium in the blood fall, in some patients," but not in others. So if you drink colas you could become paralyzed or you might not. "Symptoms can range from mild weakness and constipation to paralysis. Researchers said that family doctors should look out for muscle problems in people who drink large amounts of cola." Now, you might be saying, what's a large amount of cola? Between two and ten liters a day. (laughing) Ten liters a day? It's a half liter, looks like a 12-ounce bottle, 16-ounce bottle? Okay, a 16.9-ounce bottle is a half liter. So you'd have to drink a minimum of four of those a day or up to 20 of those a day to be at risk. That's a pretty big range, between two and ten liters a day. And then you would have to do this repeatedly. What, Snerdley? Yeah that's a good question. When's the last time you went to the doctor and asked how many colas you're having? "

This is a 2 liter bottle, so you would have to drink between 1 and 5 of these a day to maybe experience these symptoms. Notice this is diet, so maybe it takes even more to get the same results. Can you imagine drinking 10 liters of this stuff? I guess if you drank 100 liters you could even die, but that's just a guess 'cause they don't mention how many that takes!

HA HA! I don't know why this post turned out all weird with the writing going down the side making it hard to read, but I like it! Couldn't have planned it on my own!

New Radio, Rush Limbaugh, and Obama's speech

I finally got a new radio after I ran over my last one in my garage a couple of months ago! This means I will now get to listen to my favorite radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh everyday now when I am at work! He is one of my heros. For everyone who has never listened to him, but only hears what the media says about him check him out... He is one of the REALLY smart ones in the political arena, and he is none of the things that the media portrays him to be. This morning he was talking about how ridiculous it was that Obama gave the commencement address at the University of Notre Dame (a catholic university of all places!) over the weekend. He was also given an honorary doctor of laws degree as well. I really can't believe they chose him given his stance on abortion and how evil the Catholic Church believes it to be. President Obama addressed the abortion issue during his speech. He said, "Maybe we won't agree on abortion, but we can still agree that this is a heart-wrenching decision for any woman to make with both moral and spiritual dimensions. So lets work together to reduce the number of women seeking abortions by reducing unintended pregnancies, and making adoptions more available, and providing care and support for women who do carry their child to term." Rush had some very good points this morning. He said, "Where is the middle ground between good and evil? Where do you compromise? Where's the compromise between life and death? Where's the compromise between killing and birth? Where do you compromise on that?" He then simply asked why we should strive to limit the number of abortions... "Is he admitting there's something wrong about it, then? If there's nothing wrong with an unwanted pregnancy and if there's nothing wrong with abortion, why do we have to limit them? Why do we hope it's rare, if there's nothing wrong, if it's really nothing more than an issue of liberty and freedom for women, then why do we have to make liberty and freedom rare for women?" He is exactly right. Obama is trying to find middle ground between those that are pro-life and those that are pro-choice, when there is no compromise between embracing life or destroying it. There are no shades of gray. Why is it so " heart-wrenching with moral and spiritual dimensions" if you are not killing a human being? If it's just a tiny mass of mush that is irrelevant, why give it a second thought? To quote Rush..."He bastardizes his own argument here..." Funny, so descriptive! The whole transcipt is pretty good, if anyone wants to read it, click here. Some transcripts of previous shows are usually available for a few days anyway. To me, Rush limbaugh is definitely a breath of fresh air of truth and wisdom compared to most of the liberal media out there. I'm thankful I get to listen most days.

My Hybrid

Apparently I own a Golden Pyrenees. Click here. I knew that Tahoe was Golden Retriever and Great Pyrenees, but I didn't know he had a cool hybrid name. He joins the ranks of the Labradoodle, Cockapoo, and the Bullshit if you've ever seen Dumb and Dumber!

Arrowhead

Saturday me and my parents went up to Lake Arrowhead to enjoy the day together. I was happy to find out it is a very dog friendly town, especially in the Village. Shops had water bowls set up outside their doors, and this one store in particular even installed this handy hitch...

I thought it was really cute!

We stopped in at this bakery where I spent good money on stuff my dog wouldn't touch. I don't own a dog that gulps down anything you offer him. He doesn't like most things.

We ate hot dogs... (What dog doesn't like hot dogs?) Notice how gently he eats... testing to make sure it is ok!

And ice cream...

Went for a hike in this arboretum...

And took some family pics...

In honor of Mother's Day weekend, here is a picture of me and my sweet mama...

And here is a picture of my big bear and his mama... Too bad I have dark sunglasses on, because then everybody could see how he definitely has my eyes!

Mom's Day!

Happy Mother's Day to all my mom friends and to my own mom! She is the best! I love this song... it reminds me of the kind of care and love she gave me and my sister when we were growing up! More artists should write songs about their mothers!

New Life

I am REALLY happy about this tree! See all the new leaves? Yay! Me and my dad transplanted this tree several months ago from my parent's backyard. It is an Umbrella Tree that spouted up on it's own from a giant Umbrella Tree that has been in my life since I was a baby. I love this tree. It is really beautiful and shady, and I used to climb up into the branches when I was a kid! We weren't sure the transplant was going to make it because we didn't get a lot of the root. I was really excited when it started to bud out!
I can't wait for it to grow big and beautiful like my parent's tree! I know these trees grow very rapidly!
I have been working in my yard more lately. I'm finding more motivation just like the gym... The more time I spend in my yard, the nicer it starts to look which makes me want to spend more time trying to make it look nice! Lots of things in life work this way! I really like to make things look pretty... Even simple things, like putting some bark in my front planter with a few new flowers is fun!

My dad built me this cute little bench for my backyard... I like it a lot!

We also laid some stepping stones that lead to this quiet corner in my yard...

St Francis definitely belongs in this yard!

My White Birch trees leafed out nicely this spring! Here is my view up... From my bench.

Tahoe thought St Francis was a tiny man intruder the first day he saw him in our yard! He was very upset and barked viciously until I made him come inside. He has since gotton more used to him... But here he is on about day 29 making sure he is STILL made of stone. He is such a good protector!

And here is my view from my bench... I really love my beautiful little house, and I'm so thankful I get to live here! Someday my backyard will be a canopy of trees. My goal is to make it my own secret garden, but for now I am just content watching it grow!
